This painting was inspired by a photo I took of my niece this summer at the beach. I have been finding that when I work from photos rather than life I really tighten up. My goal with this piece was to stay looser.
Hi Tammy, I absolutely love this painting... might be my favorite one of yours yet! You did stay loose and the soft colours and composition just make me want to spend a relaxing, quiet day at the beach listening to those waves.
Hi Tammy Thanks so much for the friendship award! What an honor! I will have to give some thought to passing it along. Hope your son is coming along. It is so hard when our kids are sick. I really like the composition in this painting. the figure stands out against the darkness of the fence. So many of us seem to be struggling with staying loose. When I work from photos, or from "plein monitor" as I said before, I try to stay far enough away that I'm not analyzing the details too much. I try to get a sense of the whole rather than its parts. I think that the more time we spend developing a style we are happy with, the more it will come naturally. (I hope, anyway! ha)

Tammy, I really like this one. You got the feel of your niece seriously involved in her sand activities, and the whole painting just works out well.
