Iris #2 (yellow underpainting)



















Here is my second iris painting - same set up, same palette, but with a yellow underpainting. I think the yellow gives this one a different energy than the previous one.

  1. Yes - I totally agree! Another example of complimentary colours doing their thing. But who knows what other colours will do? Having fun watching : )

  2. I like this too, Tammy. The yellow brings in some of the colors you'd find in the pistils of a flower, as well as sunlight. A bit brighter than the last piece, a sunnier mood piece. I think of the two, my personal preference is the green, but that is because I adore rainy days, peace, calm and soothing that comes from the blues/greens/purples palettes. Personal preference only!

  3. I love the cool palette against the warm underpainting, it moves the viewers eye around the canvas...great thick paint too!

  4. Of the two, I would say that I like the energy of the second one. Those bits of yellow just dance around the surface. Its really great to see the difference like that. Looking forward to more!
