Man in a Beret (working title)

Last night I joined a group of local artists that meet on thursday nights to draw or paint portraits from a model. There is no instruction, just a group getting together to do what they love. The atmosphere was inspiring, the model superb and everyone made me, the newcomer, feel very welcome. I had a great painting night and could barely sleep last night because I had so much fun. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the gentleman who modeled for us, so just a working title for this painting for now.

  1. Tammy this is fabulous! It hearkens back to an earlier time in history for me and I am reminded of those stoic portraits of Russian men. Beautiful work!

  6. Wow, Tammy, this is an amazing piece. The way you have modeled the faced with the paint and then went loose around the edges of the figure to fade into the background works so well. And you have captured his expression. You really have a way with faces...the portrait competition (DSDF) brought out your skill as well. Sometimes we need to get out and get involved with a group to get re-invigorated. It can get pretty lonely in the studio!

  7. Tammy, this is soo "Van Goghish". What a wonderful success for an artist. I also love the one above "your blue phase"?

  8. Love this, Tammy! Great texture and color. Love the fade in the bottom - such rich color. The face has so much color, too. The man's expression is great, too! Well captured, composed and painted.

    Cheers!
